Seagull SYK-5 Wireless Remote Flash Slave Trigger : strobist with Sony NEX
With the Sony NEX 3 or 5 there is no way to trigger a remote flash with the provided small flash. Sony has not implemented the wireless protocol that is implemented with all the Sony Alpha DSLR. As a strobist photographer, I was looking for a workaround.
The Seagull SKY-5Â is the only solution as far as I know.
SONY E-mount 16mm f2.8 pancake SEL16F28 : a controversial lens!
“The best camera you own is one that you can always carry with you.” This lens shrinks the Sony NEX down to nearly pocket size!
I wouldn’t recommend anyone buys the 16mm F2.8 as their only lens for a NEX. But if you plan to combine a few lenses with your Sony NEX, I think this one is the first to buy with the camera as a kit lens.
Sony NEX: a better solution than a DSLR to reuse manual lenses
I have spent a few years happy with my Sony Alpha 700 using old manual prime lenses. I have shared this experience at www.lowcost4dslr.com
But now with the SONY NEX system I have found a better alternative to re-use more manual lenses with a better control and usability.
Konica Hexanon AR 40mm F1.8 fast and compact pancake
I was looking for a 35mm pancake for my brand new SONY NEX 3 in order to complement the SEL 16 2.8 privided as a kit lens.
Then I remembered that the old Konica Hexanon AR 40mm F1.8 was a very compact pancake. So I purchased a used one for 35€ with a 15$ Chinese adapter from Konica AR mount to Sony E mount.
Konica Hexanon AR 50mm F1.7 perfect for portraiture
The Konica Hexanon AR 50 1.7 was sold with the Konica Autoreflex T3 (or TC later) as a kit lens. As a consequence it is widely available for a very good price.
When mounted on a SONY NEX with it’s APS-C sensor it becomes a very nice portrait lens.
MC Magnon 28mm F2.8 for Konica AR mount
This lens is very cheap and is a very good alternative to the Konica Hexanon AR 28mm F3.5
Optically it does not disappoint. The only drawback is it’s size.
Konica Hexanon AR 135mm F2.5
Konica has manufactured several 135mm for the AR mount.
The F2.5 one is the fastest they produced in AR mount. How does it fit on the SONY NEX?
Which photo bag for my Sony NEX gear?
The best bag solution I found is a compact belt camera bag. The choice in this category is very limited.
My model is a cheap one found on ebay:
Even if it’s build quality is just acceptable, I am now certain that this form factor is very convenient with the Sony NEX.
Flexible mini tripod: mandatory for landscapes and nightshots
“The best camera you own is one that you can always carry with you. It is the same for a tripod”
This mini tripod can be considered as a walkaround tripod, particularly if you like shooting landscapes or nighshots. It is a good complement to my Sony NEX gear.
